Halló Heimur!

In 90 days, I will finally be back in Iceland. Unfortunately, just for a few days.Somewhere in Island.

Why? Because I’ve got all of Europe to see! I will be doing something very ambitious and travel through ScandInavia and all of Western Europe within two months. My biggest concern is falling madly in love with a city in the beginning of my trip and not wanting to go anywhere else. I just have to be stern with myself and keep going.

After Iceland, I go to Norway, a country I already know I will love because of it’s natural landscapes. From there, I go to Sweden to celebrate midsommar, or summer solstice, from June 19 – 21. I love culture and celebration around nature, but America hardly places any focus on the longest day of the year and the start of summer, so I decided I’d like to be a part of a country that places value on a day full of sun.

From there, I work my way to Denmark to celebrate sankthansaften, or St. John’s Eve, on June 23 where they make a large bonfire for the celebration! I get to thank Anthony Bourdain for showing me that on Parts Unknown. It was during his visit to Copenhagen that I decided I must go there to witness this firsthand!

From Scandinavia, I work my way down through Europe, emphasis on beer cities and nature. I’m afraid each city will need an extension, however, time and money does not allow for it. I have been trying to plan this trip for over 3 years now and after failure after failure trying to plan it with someone, I decided I had to just do it in order for it to get done.

“The most dangerous risk of all – the risk of spending your life not doing what you want on the bet you can buy yourself the freedom to do it later.”

My trip is still in the works of planning. I intend to CouchSurf the vast majority of my trip. What better way to learn the city than through the eyes of a local?

If you have any advice for me or you’re somewhere abroad and would like to possibly meet up for a cup of coffee, beer or go explore the outdoors, please leave me a comment or send a message my way! Europe is a whole new world for me and I just know cities I should visit not necessarily know what I should do, so let me know of any must-sees or must-dos!
